Tidepool Bookshop is pleased to offer a choice of two 90-minute workshops for kids 7-11 years old. The event will be presented by local authors/illustrators Fern Nissim of Shrewsbury and Sue Fleishman of Marlboro, publishers of the Little Red Ant Books series. (www.littleredantbooks.com) The free sessions are scheduled uniquely to give kids the opportunity to choose two different times for the first and second workshops, Wednesday Oct 12, 3:30-5:00 pm, and Saturday October 15, 11:00- 12.30 are the choices of the first session. The second sessions will be Wednesday October 19, 3:30 – 5:00 and repeated on Saturday October 22, 11:00-12:30. (You must attend one of the first dates to participate in the second one.)
Kids will learn how to develop their main character and storyline in the first session. On the second one they will have a chance to learn the concept of sketching and storyboarding their ideas into an actual book format. (Supplies will be provided.)
Children need not have a concept or story in mind to attend. The intent is to motivate them to start the creative process in thinking and drawing their own book.
Class sizes are limited and a reservation is required for each class.
About the presenters:
Fern Davis Nissim: Illustrating children’s books has always been Fern Davis Nissim’s dream. Her early art training at the Boston Museum of Fine Art and Mass College of Art offered her a world of artistic opportunity but her career took a different path. She has more than 20 years of award-winning senior experience in the marketing, communications, and public relations fields, both in the corporate and nonprofit worlds and is currently a broker/Realtor with Lakefront Living LLC. Recently she has self-published three books she wrote and illustrated with co illustrator Sue Fleishman in The Little Red Ant Book series, about a little red ant that seeks freedom, friendship, and community as she moves forward on her own journey of self-discovery and awareness of the world around her.
Sue Fleishman: Art has always been part of Sue’s life. She uses watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media for her creations. The Little Red Ant Books series provided her first adventure in illustrating. Sue uses photographs of people moving and playing for her gestural drawings, which give the characters life and personality. Sue has had several local exhibits of her work and taught painting through her local senior center sharing all her techniques learned over time.
