Lucky in Love: Traditions, Customs, and Rituals to Personalize Your Wedding
A guide to planning a wedding that’s unique, meaningful, and, above all, auspicious, with the help of customs from all over the world.
It’s also the embodiment of some of Eleni Gage's core beliefs: "We have a lot to learn from the generations and cultures that came before us. We shape our own fate, but every life could benefit from a little magic. And, like love, luck multiplies when it’s shared."
Every engaged couple wants two things: a meaningful wedding and a lifetime of happiness. This great gift book is a cross-cultural collection of marriage folklore that will help you achieve both. Create your own lucky traditions with nods to each other’s heritage, customs from places you’ve visited together, and auspicious rituals that just feel special. Whether you are just engaged or you’re days away from tying the knot, you’ll gain insight every step of the way. With this book as your guide, you can make your own luck in love.
Eleni N. Gage is a novelist, freelance writer, and former executive editor for Martha Stewart Weddings. She graduated from Bancroft School in Worcester and went on to Harvard University and graduated with a degree in folklore and mythology.
The daughter of a Greek father and a Minnesotan mother, Eleni grew up in Athens, Greece, and the suburbs of Worcester, Massachusetts—and became obsessed with cultural rituals and traditions along the way.
Her fascination with cultural rituals, beliefs, and intermixing inspired her to study Folklore and Mythology when she went off to college at Harvard University. Four days after graduation, she moved to New York to work in magazine journalism.
She has been a freelance writer and editor, and is currently the Articles Editor at O, the Oprah magazine. Her articles have appeared on the covers of Travel+Leisure, T, Budget Travel, Town&Country Travel, and Real Simple, and she's contributed to The New York Times, Parade, The Wall Street Journal and The American Scholar. She has also been a writing instructor, teaching academic writing to first-year students at Columbia University, and leading travel-writing workshops for media professionals through Mediabistro.
