Join local suspense authors Janet Raye Stevens and Sharon Healy-Yang for an engaging, multi-media event revealing some intriguing inspirations for creating a mystery set circa WWII. Using film clips, anecdotes, and excerpts from their books, Sharon and Janet will talk about 1940s women in real as well as reel life and how these smart, stylish, and wise-cracking gals in books and film inspired their own 1940s-set mysteries. If you love mysteries, movies, and lots of banter, don’t miss it!
Sharon Healy-Yang a former English professor at Worcester State University, is a huge fan of the wit and dark suspense of mystery films and writings from the golden era. That passion inspired Bait and Switch, a mystery/romance set in 1943 and a finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards, as well as its sequels: the noir-inflected Letter from a Dead Man and Always Play the Dark Horse. Her Jessica Minton series features a sharp, witty, imaginative female lead who's ripe for a little romance, even if it is mixed in with espionage, deception, or murder. And there's a smart alec sister and equally smart-alec cat along for the ride!
Meet award-winning author Janet Raye Stevens – mom, reader, tea-drinker (okay, tea guzzler), and weaver of smart, stealthily romantic tales. A Derringer Short Mystery Fiction Award finalist and winner of the Daphne du Maurier Award for the WWII-set paranormal, A Moment After Dark, Janet writes short stories and novel-length historical mysteries, time travel, and the occasional Christmas romance with humor, heart, and a dash of suspense. She lives with her family in central Massachusetts. Connect with Janet at janetrayestevens.com
